The Veteran

A noble call to protect the rest,
is only answered by the best.

And when they serve and return to home,
it’s only then they are left alone.

The days of wine and roses have long since passed,
the time for suffering is over at last.

And when those around have ceased to care,
it’s time to go where no one dares.

While others doubt and question not,
the end will come with a single shot.

Note:  Government reports indicate that at least 18 veterans commit suicide every day. Some sources indicates these estimates are understated. In fact, past congressional hearings have disclosed intentional misleading reports on veteran suicides by the Veterans Administration.

It is expected that the rate of veteran suicides will increase with the return of veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. On one hand the government says they plan to increase VA programs to veterans at risk and on the other hand the government considers treatment of veterans as a socialist “Entitlement Program” that should be cut.
