The Politician

They often come with lofty dreams,
but soon they fall to lowly schemes.

For what they find in troubled hours,
is how to gain and control with power.

And while they play as kings and queens,
their servants work behind the scenes.

So with our treasure and our lives,
they squander both with clever lies.

For theirs is not for honor done,
theirs is for their riches won.

Note:

In talking about politics and politicians, two of our founding fathers published the following in “The Federalist Papers”.

Madison wrote - “Enlightened statesmen will not always be at the helm.”

Hamilton wrote - “the perverted ambition of another class of men, who will either hope to aggrandize themselves by the confusions of their country, or will flatter themselves with fairer prospects of elevation” and “Have there not been as many wars founded upon commercial motives since that has become the prevailing system”
